GWARP Welcomes Two Bear Cubs

GWARP Welcomes Two Bear Cubs

Henry and Harry lost their mother to poachers. They found bottle feeds, makeshift pools, toys, and a remarkably fluffy guardian named Milton.

Their Mother Had Been Killed. The Cubs Were Suddenly Alone.

GWARP was already caring for rescued brown bears when another call came: two very young cubs had been orphaned after their mother was killed by poachers.

The cubs were named Henry and Harry and transported to GWARP's smaller dog sanctuary, where staff could keep them indoors, bottle-feed them, and supervise them closely.

The cubs treated Milton like the teddy bear he resembles.

Buckets Became Pools. Dogs Became Friends.

The cubs were given toys and makeshift pools crafted from buckets. As they settled in, they also became increasingly comfortable around the dogs sharing the sanctuary.

One dog in particular decided the cubs were apparently his responsibility. Milton stayed close, followed them, watched over them, and became the unlikely adult presence in their little social world.

The Former Neglect Case Became the Babysitter.

There is a lovely symmetry in Milton's role. Only months earlier, he had been rescued starved, dehydrated, nearly hairless, and covered in wounds after neglect and abandonment.

By the time Henry and Harry arrived, he was healthy enough to become the steady, fluffy dog they climbed on, hugged, and treated like a living teddy bear. Rescue had given Milton enough safety to become safety for someone else.
